Our story

Before COVID-19, our founder and executive director Dr. Kristi McClamroch was writing a high school science textbook with her colleague Dr. JoLynn Montgomery. The book leverages epidemiology tools to help students learn critical thinking skills to make informed decisions about their health.

After the pandemic started, Drs. McClamroch and Montgomery saw many people struggling to make informed decisions about ways to reduce their COVID-19 risk. They quickly shifted their focus, and created a decision-making framework that walks people through risk reduction strategies they can use in their daily lives.

Dr. McClamroch also launched a Facebook group called “Public Health Rock Stars” as a way to connect with other epidemiologists and public health experts to discuss emerging COVID-19 information. The group has grown to over 3,500 people working to improve public health in the United States and abroad.

A team of these “Rock Stars” dedicated themselves to translating the decision-making framework into something easy for people to use in their daily lives. Together, they launched Public Health Connected, a new non-profit organization that equips people with tools they can use in their daily lives to protect their health and the health of their communities.
